Terrorist killed in Pakistani forces operation identified as Afghan commander

Islamabad (Web Desk): The security sources have revealed the identity of an Afghan militant killed during an operation in Pakistan, confirming his involvement in terrorist activities.

“On February 28, Pakistani forces carried out a successful operation in Ghulam Khan Kalay, where they eliminated 14 militants. Among those killed was Mujeebur Rehman, also known as Mansoor, a native of Dandar village in Maidan Wardak province, Afghanistan. Mujeeb was a commander in Afghanistan’s National Military Academy, serving in the third battalion, the security sources said.

Earlier, on January 30, another similar operation, the security forces killed Badruddin, an Afghan army lieutenant and the son of Badghis province's deputy governor, in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa’s (KP) Dera Ismail Khan.

Incidents, including, these two, highlight the increasing problem of cross-border militancy.

Pakistani security officials have raised concerns over Afghanistan's failure to prevent such infiltrations, suggesting that the Afghan government may be offering logistical assistance to insurgent groups.

The militants' possession of sophisticated weaponry further suggests a potential connection between Afghan authorities and extremist factions such as Fitnatul Khawarij.

According to defence analysts, Afghanistan has increasingly become a refuge for multiple terrorist organizations, with the Afghan government turning a blind eye to their operations.

They have urged the Afghan government to shift its priorities, focusing more on improving health and education services for the people instead of providing support to militant groups.

Security forces in Pakistan have also warned that many Afghan nationals attempting to cross the border either surrender, are captured, or are killed during these operations.

They have called on Afghan families to prevent their children from joining extremist organizations.

The long and porous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which stretches for approximately 2,500 kilometers and includes multiple crossing points, is of significant strategic importance, facilitating both trade and cultural exchange.

However, the continuing terrorist threat remains a major concern for Pakistan, with the country urging Afghanistan to take stronger actions to prevent groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from using Afghan soil to carry out attacks in Pakistan.

This issue has gained international attention, especially following a report to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team.

The report has confirmed a concerning nexus between the Afghan government and the TTP, with Afghanistan allegedly providing various forms of support to the group.
