PM Shehbaz calls Lahore-Baku direct PIA flights a big step for Pakistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the launch of direct Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights from Lahore to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, describing it as a positive development and an important diplomatic breakthrough for Pakistan.

In an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz expressed his delight over the initiative, saying that the direct air connection between Lahore and Baku will bring the people of the two nations closer and enhance cooperation in various sectors, especially tourism.

He said the commencement of these direct flights would further strengthen the friendly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister also announced that similar direct PIA flights to other friendly countries would be introduced soon.

Describing Baku as a close and trusted friend of Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the shared interest in strengthening bilateral collaboration across multiple fields.

Meanwhile, PIA’s inaugural flight PK-159 departed from Lahore to Baku at 11:50 AM with 152 passengers on board. A dignified ceremony was held at Lahore Airport to mark the occasion, where Defence Minister Khawaja Asif attended as the chief guest.
