Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially launched direct flights from Lahore to Baku, the picturesque capital of Azerbaijan. The inaugural flight, PK-159, departed from Allama Iqbal International Airport carrying 174 passengers.
To mark the occasion, a simple yet elegant ceremony was held at the airport, featuring a cake-cutting event and distribution of commemorative gifts to passengers. The event was attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Khazar Farhadov, Defence Secretary Major General (R) Aamir Ashfaq Kayani, Director General Airports Authority Sameer Saeed, and Airport Manager Nazir Khan, among other notable figures.
According to PIA, two flights per week will operate between Lahore and Baku in the initial phase. Prior to the launch, the national airline organized a roadshow that was well-attended by travel agents, tour operators, and professionals from the tourism sector.
PIA officials highlighted that Baku has emerged as a top tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the globe for its cuisine, culture, and historical landmarks. Often referred to as the “Europe of Asia,” Baku continues to grow in popularity among international travelers.
