Rainfall likely in upper regions to improve air quality: PMD

Islamabad (Web Desk/Agencies): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a spell of rainfall beginning on November 14, offering a much-needed break from the persistent smog and pollution that has been choking the country.

This expected weather pattern is likely to clear up foggy conditions and significantly enhance air quality, bringing relief to residents across affected areas.

A weather front is predicted to arrive in the upper regions of the country on the evening of November 14, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and even snowfall over mountainous areas.

The unsettled weather is expected to last until the morning of November 16. The areas most affected by this weather system include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with regions in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The forecast also includes light rain and thunderstorms for cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and other parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the evening of November 14 through November 15.

This rainfall is expected to help clear the air of pollutants, improving visibility and reducing the smog that has plagued urban centers.

In particular, areas like Islamabad, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Punjab are likely to see an improvement in air quality during this period.

However, the PMD cautioned that dense fog may return to Punjab’s plains after the rain clears, so farmers are advised to plan their activities accordingly.

Travelers, particularly those heading to mountainous regions or areas with higher altitudes, should stay alert to potential disruptions caused by rain and snow.

Authorities have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent any issues arising from the changing weather, ensuring public safety during the wet spell.
