Riyadh/Tehran (Web Desk/Agencies): Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian engaged in a phone call on Thursday afternoon, during which they exchanged Eid al-Fitr greetings and discussed various regional developments.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the two leaders also took the opportunity to address several issues of mutual interest.
This conversation comes at a time when tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program have been intensifying, especially with repeated military threats from the United States (US).
In their exchange, President Pezeshkian assured Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that Iran has no interest in conflict. He stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has never sought war or conflict, and the non-peaceful use of nuclear energy has no place in our security and defense doctrine.”
He went on to add, “Iran is ready to engage in dialogue to alleviate certain tensions based on mutual interests and respect. We are not seeking war with any country, but we have no doubts about defending ourselves, and our readiness and capabilities in this regard are at the highest level.”
Pezeshkian also suggested that Iran would be open to allowing its nuclear activities to undergo full verification to confirm their peaceful nature, as had been done in the past.
In response, the Saudi Crown Prince emphasized the potential for cooperation, saying, “Iran and Saudi Arabia and other regional countries can effectively help strengthen stability and peace” in the Middle East. MBS further conveyed that Saudi Arabia is willing to play a proactive role in de-escalating tensions and enhancing security in the region.
The conversation between the two leaders also included the exchange of warm Eid al-Fitr wishes for their nations, signaling an important diplomatic gesture amid ongoing discussions of regional security and cooperation.
