Lahore (Staff Report/Agencies): Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has said that he does not see general elections happening in Pakistan anytime soon.
Talking to senior journalists on Wednesday, Imran Khan said that he was not in contact with the establishment at the moment. “Former COAS Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa did great injustice to this country. Our government had good working relations with him but corruption of politicians was of no substance to him,” the PTI chief added.
“Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has become a “drawing room” party,” Imran Khan maintained and warned, “The results would not be good if some sort of political engineering is done during the elections.” He said that the mandate of the largest party in the then East Pakistan (Bangladesh) was not recognised in 1970.
Earlier, Imran Khan said that he would not take any action against Bajwa if his party attains power again.
Imran Khan made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
The former premier said the new COAS General Asim Munir has said that they will remain neutral.
However, he added that the biggest test of his neutrality would be holding elections within three months of the dissolution of KP and Punjab assemblies. The PTI chief added that he became certain that a plan had been hatched to topple the PTI government when Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was removed as DG ISI.
