Lahore (Web Desk): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued notices to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and other parties while hearing the bail plea of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab senior leader and Member National Assembly (MNA) Rana Sanaullah in a drug smuggling case.
Justice Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmed of LHC heard bail plea of Punjab’s former law minister.
Rana Sanaullah in his petition said that the case against him was registered because of his strong criticism of the government.
The bail plea read that delay in the registration of FIR of the case creates suspicion of malicious intent.
Sanaullah said he was booked for smuggling of 21kg heroin, according to the FIR while later the weight of the captured narcotics was declared 15kg.
“I had expressed apprehension about my arrest prior to the arrest. I have been arrested in a baseless case,” the PML-N leader said.
Rana Sanaullah pleaded to the court for his release on bail in the case.
The court issued notices to the ANF and other parties and adjourned the hearing till Dec 4.
The PML-N leader is currently on judicial remand till November 30.
Rana Sanaullah was arrested by ANF from Motorway near Sukheki on July 1. He is accused of having ties with drug traffickers.
The ANF officials had claimed that they had recovered drugs from Sanaullah’s vehicle and lodged a case under section 9 (C) of Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997.
