PM Shehbaz calls for devising effective strategy to achieve $60b exports target

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the importance of formulating a robust and strategic plan to achieve the ambitious target of $60 billion in exports within the next five years.

The prime minister issued these instructions during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, where key officials reviewed the current efforts to boost Pakistan's exports.

During the meeting, the premier directed the economic team to focus on implementing sustainable tariff reforms to promote industrial and economic growth, ultimately supporting the expansion of exports.

He highlighted the significance of focusing on high-priority sectors such as services, information technology, and agriculture as key drivers of export growth.

PM Shehbaz reiterated that a strong export-led economy is integral to realizing the "Uraan Pakistan" vision. In line with this, he urged the implementation of reforms to improve the governance of the Export Development Fund, which plays a critical role in supporting export industries.

In the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on the ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Commerce, including measures already taken to facilitate export growth, such as gradual tariff reductions over the past two years.

Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce organizes international exhibitions in Pakistan each year to promote local exports.

The briefing also mentioned the progress of consultations regarding the Strategic Trade Policy Framework for 2025-2030, which is under development.

Moreover, it was informed that the e-commerce policy, which is in its final stages of consultation, is expected to be presented to the cabinet next month for approval.

Furthermore, the establishment of the National Compliance Center is seen as a significant step to ensure that Pakistan's products meet international standards.

The center will also focus on training programs to strengthen the capabilities of Pakistan’s export industries.
