COAS’s tenure should be extended until new govt elected: Imran Khan

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan has suggested to extend the tenure of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa till the new government is elected.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Imran Khan said that the appointment of new army chief should be postponed until the general elections could be held across the country and the new government choose the new military chief.

Responding to a question regarding the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision to indict him in a contempt of court case, Imran Khan said that if the five-member bench hearing the case would have allowed him to say something, he would have apologised.

Imran Khan further said that he was ready to hold talks with the coalition government regarding snap polls.

The former premier also commented on the coalition government’s deal with the IMF and criticised its performance following increasing inflation in the country. “I warned that the economy would not be handled by conspiracies and that all credit agencies have downgraded them,” he maintained.

The PTI chief clarified that he was not anti-America, but stressed good relations with the US.
