Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former premier Imran Khan on Friday said that his party will attend government’s All Parties Conference Operation Azm-e-Istehkam despite reservations.
Speaking to the media after the hearing on the 190 million pound reference in Adiala Jail, the PTI founder said that his party members would attend the conference only as “observers”, emphasising that the decision to participate was made solely for the benefit of Pakistan as it is a national issue.
Expressing concerns about the Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, Imran Khan said that Pakistan has a 2,500 km border with Afghanistan and the operation will further increase instability in the country.
He further said that until the relations with Afghanistan improve, we cannot win from TTP.
The government decided to call the APC to address concerns from coalition and opposition parties regarding Operation Azm-e-Istahkam.
The APC aims to build political consensus and ensure all parties are on board with the operation's objectives.
On June 22, the Apex Committee of National Action Plan (NAP), chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, approved “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” to curb the menace of terrorism from the country.
However, opposition parties including the PTI, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP), and others have voiced concerns over the military operation, demanding that parliament must be taken into confidence before taking any such decision.
Responding to the criticism, the Prime Minister Office (PMO) had clarified that "no large-scale military operation is being launched" in the country.
