PAEC starts construction of Chashma nuclear power plant unit 5 

Mianwali (Web Desk): The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has formally launched the construction of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 (C-5) in Mianwali.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key figures, including Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, along with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and other distinguished officials from both countries.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Ahsan Iqbal highlighted that the C-5 project is a testament to the strong and enduring partnership between Pakistan and China.

He pointed out that the plant will not only generate thousands of employment opportunities but also provide the country with affordable and clean energy.

Iqbal stressed the importance of Pakistan embracing technological advancement and innovation to drive its economic growth.

Once completed, the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 will add 1,200 MW of clean energy to Pakistan’s national grid.

This expansion will increase the country’s nuclear energy capacity to 4,760 MW, helping to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote sustainable development.

The project is expected to play a crucial role in boosting Pakistan's energy sector and contributing to its socio-economic progress.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a post on social media handle X, on Monday said that commencement of construction of the most modern and the biggest, C-5 Nuclear Power Plant was another milestone in strategic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

“The plant will contribute 1200 megawatts electricity. I congratulate PAEC and CNNC on this remarkable achievement. Pak China Dosti Zindabaad,” the premier said.
