Lahore (Web Desk): The 40th death anniversary of the acclaimed filmmaker, writer, director and music composer Khawaja Khurshid Anwar was observed on Wednesday.
Born on March 21, 1912, in Mianwali, he is renowned for his musical contributions to 227 films, as well as for directing three and producing six.
Khawaja Khurshid Anwar crafted unforgettable music for several notable films, including Intazar, Ghoonghat, Chingari, Hamraz, Mirza Jutt, and Shireen Farhad.
He is also credited with creating the signature tune for Radio Pakistan, earning a reputation as one of the most original and creative music directors of his era.
Khawaja Khurshid Anwar’s career began in 1939 as the Programme Producer (Music) at All India Radio.
Before returning to Lahore from India in 1952, he had composed popular songs for films such as Ishaara, Parwana, and Singaar.
He worked alongside a talented team that included director Masud Parvez, writer Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj, and lyricists Qateel Shifai and Tanvir Naqvi, producing celebrated movies like Intezar, Jhoomer, and Zehr-e-Ishq from 1956 to 1958.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the arts, he received the Nigar Award and the Sitara-e-Imtiaz from the government of Pakistan.
Khawaja Khurshid Anwar passed away on October 30, 1984, in Lahore after a protracted illness and was laid to rest at Miani Sahib Graveyard.
