Islamabad (Web Desk): On Sunday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee declared that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Monday, March 31, following the sighting of the Shawwal moon in Pakistan.
This announcement came after a meeting held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad, where the committee was joined by representatives from various zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees across the country.
The session, led by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, included members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, as well as officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Suparco, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
During the meeting, a number of testimonies from different regions confirmed the moon’s visibility, solidifying the decision that Eid would take place the following day.
Maulana Azad addressed a press conference afterward, sharing that the majority of reports received affirmed the moon sighting, thus concluding the holy month of Ramadan and ushering in the celebrations for Eid.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and several other countries are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today (Sunday).
Other nations in the Middle East, such as Kuwait, Qatar, and Iran, also confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal moon, signaling the start of Eid celebrations today.
The day marks the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan, which is observed in the Islamic calendar’s ninth month. Other countries in the region, including Kuwait, Qatar, and Iran, followed suit, announcing the sighting of the Shawwal moon and confirming that they too would celebrate Eid on Sunday.
The holiday symbolizes the end of Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, self-discipline, and reflection. Eid-ul-Fitr is a time of joy, where Muslims come together for communal prayers, festive meals, and moments of gratitude.
It is also a time for giving, as Muslims are encouraged to give Zakat al-Fitr (also known as Fitrana) to those in need, ensuring that everyone can partake in the celebrations.
