COVID-19: Pakistan reports 908 new infections, 16 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 312,638 on Thursday after another 824 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 331,108 after 908 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 144,765 cases were reported in Sindh, 103,587 in Punjab, 39,277 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,876 in Balochistan, 19,454 in Islamabad, 4,211 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 3,938 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,775 with 16 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has instructed the closure of all commercial activities including markets, shopping malls and restaurants by 10pm.

However, essential services like medical stores, clinics and hospitals would remain open.

The NCOC has also decided to close down all amusement and public parks by 6pm as second wave of COVID-19 hits Pakistan.

The decision would be implemented from Thursday (today) in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Hyderabad, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Peshawar and Quetta.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 43.4 million and death toll tops 1.163,000 million.
