Islamabad (Web Desk): The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday accepted the 'unconditional' apology tendered by independent Senator Faisal Vawda and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Mustafa Kamal and withdrew the contempt of court notice issued to them.
A three judge bench judge headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa heard the contempt case.
As per the court's order, read by the CJP, both the lawmakers have realised that the words they used were inappropriate.
The order read, "They have now withdrawn their statement and tendered an unconditional apology to the court."
The court further wrote about withdrawing the show-cause notice issued to both lawmakers in view of their reflection on the matter and tendering of apology.
"We, however, expect that they stand by their statements submitted in courts because if there is further transgression, a simple apology may then not be acceptable to this court," the court order stated.
In May, both politicians had criticised the judiciary during their sparate press conferences. Faisal Vawda emphasised the necessity of evidence before levelling allegations, while Mustafa Kamal aimed to establish ethical standards for judges, insisting that justice could "only be bought".
On June 26, Senator Faisal Vawda submitted an apology to the SC of Pakistan in a contempt of court case.
Vawda, in his second written response to the court, expressed his utmost respect for the judiciary.
"Following the court proceedings on June 5, I met with religious scholars to understand the role of a senator. I was advised to stand by justice, even if it is against my own kin," Vawda stated.
The SC issued contempt notice to 34 TV channels for airing 'anti-judiciary press conferences' of Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal.
