PM directs to formulate framework for stronger economic ties with Azerbaijan

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities concerned to formulate a comprehensive framework to strengthen economic partnership with Azerbaijan in investment and trade sectors.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad today regarding the promotion of economic and trade relations with Central Asian Republics especially Azerbaijan, he said that there is an enormous potential of trade and investment between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Highlighting the unique strategic location of Pakistan, PM Shehbaz said that Pakistan offers a natural economic corridor through Sea waters for Central Asian states.

“Pakistan and Azerbaijan have longstanding fraternal ties spanning decades,” the premier said.

He further said that foreign investment is increasing in the country due to the business and investment-friendly policies of the government.

The meeting was briefed that negotiations are underway to have preferential trade agreement with Azerbaijan as there is a huge potential of energy cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The prime minister was also briefed about the steps taken to increase business and trade volume, potential and investment opportunities between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning and Development & Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Privatization and Investment Abdul Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Power Sardar Owais Khan Leghari, Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
