Nation remembers Captain Muhammad Sarwar on his 76th martyrdom anniversary

Islamabad (Web Desk): The 76th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed today (Saturday).

Raja Muhammad Sarwar was born in Singhori village in Gujar Khan district on November 10, 1910.

His father, Raja Muhammad Hayat Khan, also served in the British army as a constable.

Raja Sarwar entered into the army as a Sepoy in April 1929 and served in the Baloch regiment till 1941.

He was commissioned in the Punjab regiment in 1944 and also got promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant that very year.

Raja Sarwar joined the Punjab regiment in 1946 and achieved the rank of Captain, months before the creation of Pakistan.

Once the country emerged on the map of the world in 1947, Raja Muhammad Sarwar volunteered to be a part of the battalion formed to regain Kashmir. He was given the rank of Company Commander of the Second Battalion of the Punjab Regiment.

Under Captain Muhammad Sarwar’s leadership, the regiment was able to force the Indian forces to retreat out of certain regions of Gilgit-Baltistan. However, his battalion faced heavy resistance from the opposing forces present in the Uri sector as the soldiers pushed forward to take over a well-guarded enemy position.

As he along with his battalion continued moving forward, the intensity of gun-fire, grenade attacks and mortar fire. He received martyrdom on July 27, 1948, after receiving multiple shots on his chest as he attempted to cut a barbed wire barrier while making an effort to progress further into enemy lines.

In recognition of his courage, Captain Sarwar was awarded with the Nishan-e-Haider by Pakistan army. Sarwar Shaheed College, located in Gujar Khan, was named to honour him.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday paid tribute to Capt. Sarwar Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider), on his 76th martyrdom anniversary, lauding his valour and sacrifice to safeguard the country.

In a statement, the premier said that Captain Sarwar Shaheed embraced martyrdom in 1948 war by setting an example of courage and bravery.

He said that Capt. Sarwar Shaheed preferred the protection of his motherland to his life and set an eternal example for the generations to come.

PM Shehbaz said that Captain Sarwar Shaheed’s martyrdom anniversary was a reminder for the entire nation of the unparalleled sacrifices of the martyrs.

He said that the whole nation could never forget the sacrifices of the officers and men of Pakistan Army for safeguarding the country.

“The entire nation, including me, is proud of the martyrs of Pakistan Army and their families. The entire nation stands by the officers and men of the Pakistan armed forces who are defending the country without caring about their own lives,” PM Shehbaz added.

Armed Forces, services chiefs pay homage to Captain Sarwar Shaheed

Armed Forces of Pakistan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and Services Chiefs have paid homage to Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed on his martyrdom anniversary.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Captain Muhammad Sarwar showed unwavering fortitude and heroism in defence of the motherland.

“The anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed reminds us of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces of Pakistan,” the military’s media wing said.

Meanwhile, Quran Khawani was held in mosques on the occasion of the 76th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider.

The scholars prayed for the exalted status of the martyr. They said Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed was a brave son of the soil who will always live in the hearts of Pakistani people.
