Pakistan marks 6th anniversary of 'Operation Swift Retort'

Islamabad (Web Desk): The 6th anniversary of "Operation Swift Retort" is being commemorated across the country today (Thursday) to pay tribute to the valiant Armed Forces of Pakistan for demonstrating their resilience and resolve against Indian attempt to carry out a misadventure.

On this day in 2019, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) launched a decisive operation in response to India's Balakot airstrikes, which had breached the Line of Control (LoC) the day before.

The Operation Swift Retort was a rapid response to Indian Air Force strike in Balakot obliterating Pakistan's airspace that had merely harmed a few trees and a wild crow.

PAF had shot down two Indian fighter jets namely Mig-21 and Su-30 while the pilot of the Mig-21, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, was captured by Pakistani authorities as the fighter jet crashed inside Pakistan’s territory.

The captured pilot was realised a day later as a good-will gesture to India.

The PAF pilots who played crucial roles in the operation, including Wg Cmdr Noman Ali Khan, Group Captain Faheem Ahmad Khan, and Sq Ldr Hassan Mahmood Siddiqui, were honored for their courage and skill.

Operation Swift Retort was not just a tactical response but a firm statement of Pakistan's resolve to defend its sovereignty. It demonstrated the readiness and effectiveness of the Pakistan Air Force, underscoring the military’s ability to maintain control and deter further aggression.

The operation reaffirmed Pakistan's position on regional security and its commitment to protecting its territorial integrity, sending a clear message about the importance of strength and preparedness in an unpredictable geopolitical landscape.
