Centurion (Web Desk): Corbin Bosch, the debutant fast bowler, made a remarkable impact on day two of the first Test against Pakistan at SuperSport Park.
Batting at number nine, he scored an aggressive 81 not out from 93 balls, including 15 boundaries, to guide South Africa to a 90-run first-innings lead.
The hosts were just two runs ahead when Aiden Markram, who had been solid throughout, was dismissed for 89.
Bosch, who also claimed four wickets for 63 in Pakistan's first innings, formed crucial partnerships with Kagiso Rabada and Dane Paterson to help South Africa reach a total of 301 in reply to Pakistan's 211.
Markram had been under pressure due to a series of low scores but played a composed knock, moving from 47 overnight to 89 before his dismissal.
At lunch, South Africa was 31 runs behind Pakistan with five wickets remaining.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan had kept themselves in the game with two quick wickets in the morning session, dismissing both captain Temba Bavuma for 31 and David Bedingham for 30. South Africa had resumed on 82-3, with Markram continuing his solid form while Pakistan searched for breakthroughs.
The match carries significant importance for South Africa, who need to win the series to qualify for the World Test Championship final at Lord's in June.
With a strong record at home, having won their last seven Tests against Pakistan, they remain in a strong position to achieve that goal.
