Islamabad (Web Desk): The ongoing protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters in Islamabad has escalated into intense confrontations with law enforcers, leading to violent clashes and widespread disruption.
Protesters have managed to push back police and Rangers personnel, advancing towards D-Chowk despite strong resistance. Law enforcement has responded with tear gas, while PTI supporters have thrown stones in retaliation.
In response to the unrest, the federal government has invoked Article 245, deploying the Pakistan Army to assist in maintaining law and order.
A formal notification issued by the Ministry of Interior warned that those who break the law will face strict action, and security forces have been instructed to shoot on sight if necessary to quell the violence.
The unrest has led to tragic consequences, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemning what he described as an "attack by protesters."
According to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the attacks by PTI 'miscreants' have claimed lives of at least four security personnel.
The protests, which are primarily centered around calls for the release of PTI leader Imran Khan, have also caused widespread disruption in the capital. Public transport has been severely impacted, with train stations overwhelmed by large crowds of stranded passengers.
In addition, numerous roads have been blocked by security forces to prevent the protesters from advancing toward key areas.
As the clashes continue, Islamabad remains on high alert, with enhanced security measures in place to prevent further escalation.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, while PTI supporters remain determined to press on with their demonstrations, regardless of the growing risks.
