Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed her deep concern over the recent violent incidents involving attacks on Punjab police officers and check-posts.
In a statement released on Monday, the CM condemned the assaults that led to over 20 police personnel, including senior officers such as SP, DSP, and SHO, being injured.
She pointed out that the protesters were armed with weapons typically held by law enforcement, including machine guns, tear gas, knives, and masks.
The Punjab CM noted that these attacks occurred at various locations, such as Ghazi Barotha, Mianwali, and the Hazara Motorway.
She stressed that the Punjab police had been deliberately left unarmed to avoid escalating violence.
Despite this precaution, the police force continues to face dangerous situations, with one constable having been martyred in a previous protest and more than 25 officers injured.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif criticized the use of government resources for these protests, describing the situation as an "attempt at armed terrorism" rather than a peaceful demonstration.
The Punjab CM argued that such actions threaten national unity and undermine the stability of the country, highlighting the growing tension between provincial forces and the risk to public order.
