Junaid Akbar replaces Ali Amin Gandapur as PTI's KP president

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder appointed Junaid Akbar as the party’s president for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

This decision follows Akbar's recent election as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), a position he secured with backing from both government and opposition members.

Junaid Akbar will replace Khbyer Pakhtunkhawa (KP), Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur as the provincial head of the party.

This decision was confirmed during a press briefing in Rawalpindi by PTI leader Salman Akram Raja, who explained that Gandapur’s decision to resign was voluntary and motivated by his desire to focus solely on his duties as chief minister.

The leadership reshuffle was reportedly discussed in a meeting between Junaid Akbar and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, with several senior party members in attendance.

Raja hinted that PTI might consider additional changes in its structure, potentially including the appointment of former MNA Alia Hamza to a prominent role in Punjab.

PTI has also maintained its stance of wanting a commission to be formed before engaging in talks with the government, signaling that they are open to discussions if the proposed conditions are met.

Junaid Akbar’s political influence has been growing, as he was recently elected unopposed as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

This position, which has traditionally been held by opposition figures to ensure accountability, gives Akbar a powerful role in overseeing the government’s financial management.

His election was backed by key figures within PTI and the opposition, and upon assuming the position, he expressed his commitment to leading the committee effectively, emphasizing the importance of cooperation across all party lines.
