Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Minister for States and Frontier Regions (Safron) and Narcotics Control Shehryar Afridi has said the government may move to the top court against the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) vedict to grant bail to Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah in narcotics possession case.
Talking to the media here on Wednesday, Afridi said the government would review the detailed LHC verdict and then decide whether to challenge the decision in the apex court or not.
On Tuesday, the LHC granted bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) senior leader in a drug possession case.
LHC judge Justice Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmed on Monday reserved its verdict on a petition filed by the former Punjab law minister seeking a bail in the case.
Last week, an anti-narcotics court extended Member National Assembly (MNA) Rana Sanaullah's judicial remand till January 4, 2020 in a narcotics recovery case.
On July 1st, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested Rana Sanaullah from Motorway near Sukheki, claiming to have recovered heroin from his vehicle.
The FIR was lodged against the former provincial minister under section 9 (C) of Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment or a jail-term that may extend to 14 years along with a fine up to Rs1 million.
