Bilawal Bhutto urges govt to take opposition onboard to defeat terrorism

Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday called on the incumbent government to take onboard all political parties in the fight against the rising wave of terrorism in the country.

Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore’s Governor House, he urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to convene another national security meeting that includes all political stakeholders, including those who missed the previous high-level talks.

Bilawal underscored the need for particular attention to the worsening security situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

He stressed that addressing these challenges requires a collective effort and a united approach.

Bilawal said Pakistan’s political landscape has become divided, and building consensus on critical national issues has become increasingly difficult.

He lamented this lack of unity, stressing that political parties should put aside their differences and focus on tackling terrorism for the sake of the country and its people.

The PPP chairman also warned that Pakistan faces not only domestic security threats but also external challenges, describing the country as being under siege from global conspiracies.

He urged all political forces to rise above narrow political ambitions and come together to address the nation's pressing concerns. Bilawal reaffirmed his commitment to combating terrorism, both by confronting militants and dismantling the networks that support them.
Bilawal said that the PPP is ready to help facilitate dialogue among political parties to ensure that decisions on national security and other critical issues are made through collective input.

Bilawal also addressed to Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub, suggesting that while the PPP might have its own grievances, they should focus on the bigger issues that the country faces, including terrorism, economic hardship, and other internal crises, rather than simply seeking political relief.

Bilawal further clarified that while the PPP is not part of the government or the opposition, the party remains open to engaging with both sides to advance constructive discussions.

His comments came amid an escalating wave of terrorism, with security forces facing increased attacks across the country.

On March 18, the in-camera national security meeting, attended by key figures including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, highlighted the growing security concerns.

However, the opposition alliance boycotted the meeting, citing the absence of PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated in Adiala jail.

As Pakistan continues to grapple with the rise of terrorism, Bilawal's call for unity and dialogue aims to forge a way forward in a time of profound national security challenges.
