Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Saturday decided to constitute a high-powered commission to settle land disputes between the tribal groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district as at least 30 people were killed and dozens others were injured in the ongoing violent clashes.
The provincial government sent a high-level delegation comprising KP Law Minister Aftab Alam, KP Chief Secretary (CS) Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, the Kohat Division commissioner and deputy inspector general of police, and other high-level officials to Kurram for improving the security situation in the area.
The delegation was tasked to take measures to improve the security situation and also make efforts to utilise the local jirga for the purpose.
The CS said that recommendations would be forwarded to the chief minister. He said that all departments were making tireless efforts to improve the law and order situation in Kurram.
At least 20 others sustained injuries during the fierce armed clashes between the rival tribes that took place in densely populated Bagan and Alizai areas of Lower Kurram.
The fresh violence came two days after gunmen opened fire on two separate convoys travelling with police escort in Kurram, killing 45 people.
At least 75 people have been killed over the past three days in the ongoing gun battles between different tribes, according to police.
