Lahore (Staff Report/Agencies): At least ten people including five police officials were martyred and 30 others were injured in an explosion near Data Darbar in Lahore on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, the explosion took place close to two police vehicles near Gate 2 of Data Darbar.
DIG Operations Lahore Ashfaq Ahmad Khan confirmed three police officials died in the blast. A security guard and a civilian were also among the dead.
The martyred include two Elite Force personnel – identified as Shahid and Saleem – and one civilian named Rafiq.
Out of the 24 people injured in the blast, eight are in critical condition and the wounded have been admitted to the Mayo Hospital.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Saleha Saeed told the media persons that one of the dead bodies brought in to Mayo Hospital was that of the suspected attacker.
"It was a suicide attack. Ball bearings were also used in the attack," she said.
