Riyadh (Web Desk): Saudi Arabia and Iran have agreed to have bilateral meeting soon at foreign ministers' level.
According to a statement by the Saudi foreign ministry, the understanding was reached during telephonic conversation between Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian.
The statement said that the two counterparts exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The ministry said the two ministers agreed to meet soon in order to pave the way for the reopening of embassies and consulates between the two countries.
On Sunday, an Iranian official said President Ebrahim Raisi had favourably received an invitation to visit Saudi Arabia from King Salman, though Riyadh has yet to confirm.
Meanwhile that the two countries had agreed to hold a meeting between their top diplomats and that three locations had been suggested, without specifying which.
On March 10, Saudi Arabia and Iran have agreed to re-establish their diplomatic relations.
The official news agencies of both countries reported that the decision to this effect came following five days talks between senior Saudi and Iranian officials in Beijing that concluded on Friday.
In a joint statement, the two sides vowed to reopen their embassies and exchange ambassadors within a period of two months.
Both countries also agreed to respect each other's sovereignty and not interfere in each other's internal matters.
According to the joint statement, the foreign ministers of the two countries will meet soon to make arrangement for exchange of envoys and discuss means to enhance ties.
Riyadh and Tehran also agreed to activate the security cooperation agreement signed in 2001 and the trade, economy and investment agreement signed in 1998.
Both Saudi Arabia and Iran had thanked the Chinese leadership and government for hosting and supporting the talks.
