Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday suspended party membership of senior lawyer and former Punjab governor Latif Khosa after his failure to respond to the show-cause notice issued against him for violating the party policy.
The former governor has also been ousted from the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the party.
According to the party spokesperson, Secretary General Nayyar Bokhari also suspended his membership in the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
On September 14, the PPP had issued show-cause notice to Khosa for defending leaders from other political party in courts without consent of his party leadership.
The notice was issued by PPP Secretary General Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari, without mentioning the name of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, but said that Khosa had defended, pleaded for, and represented the leader of another political party in cases without obtaining prior approval from the party’s leadership.
The notice also mentioned that the PPP leader criticised the state policy on the cipher issue during the event, adding that Khosa's party membership would be terminated in case of no reply within the said time period.
Khosa was also asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
The PPP leader was granted a seven-day period to respond to the show cause notice, wherein he must provide a satisfactory explanation for his actions.
The notice explicitly warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response within the specified time frame could lead to the termination of Latif Khosa's membership in the party.
It is pertinent to mention that the individual, Khosa is defending, has already been convicted in a case under the Official Secrets Act.
Senior lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa, along with senior PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan, has been at loggerheads with their party leaders for defending the PTI chief's stance on several political matters publicly.
Khosa is also part of Imran Khan's legal team.
