International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism observed 

Islamabad (Web Desk/Agencies): The International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism is being observed across the globe including Pakistan today (Wednesday).

Acts of terrorism propagating a wide-range of hateful ideologies continue to injure, harm and kill thousands of innocent people each year.

On the occasion, Pakistan joins the international community in honouring the lives lost and the survivors of terrorist attacks.

Pakistani nation deeply understands the pain and suffering of the victims of terrorism around the world.

President Asif Ali Zardari has paid homage to all victims of terrorism, including civilians, brave personnel of security forces, and law enforcement agencies, who lost their lives while defending country from the terrorists.

In his message on the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism, he said this day also reminds us of pain and sufferings of families who lost their loved ones at hands of terrorists.

The president said the country has lost thousands of civilians and security personnel during the war on terror.

He said Pakistan's former Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was also martyred by the terrorists.

He further said number of other political and religious leaders of the country have also lost their lives at the hands of terrorists.

President Zardari reaffirmed the commitment to continue taking decisive action against terrorists.

“It is government's fundamental goal to eradicate terrorism with the support of people and secure a peaceful future for the country,” Zardari said.

He said terrorism is a global challenge, requiring collective efforts and cooperation by the international community for its elimination.

The president stressed for strengthening international cooperation and addressing root causes of extremism and terrorism.

It is pertinent to mention that for the last two decades, Pakistan has been a victim of terrorism planned, supported and sponsored from across its borders. During this period, it suffered over 80,000 causalities and incurred over US$ 150 billion in economic losses.
Despite these challenges, Pakistan remained resolute in its resolve to combat terrorism.

With national commitment, matchless resilience and unparalleled sacrifices of the people, Pakistan has managed to turn the situation and score victories against terrorism.

On this day, Pakistan has urged the world to remember the victims of state terrorism including in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) since the 1990s Indian troops have martyred over 100,000 Kashmiris, widowed over 22000 women, orphaned 108000 children and raped over 11000 women in IIOJK.
