Islamabad (Web Desk): Two newly-appointed additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took oath of their offices on Monday.
IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Aamer Farooq, administered the oath the new judges, Muhammad Azam Khan and Inam Amin Minhas.
The Law Ministry had issued the notification of their appointments on Saturday, confirming that both would serve for one year, beginning from the date they swore in.
Inam Minhas, a well-respected lawyer, has been a prominent figure in the legal community, particularly for his efforts to advocate for the expansion of IHC judges' positions during his tenure as president of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA).
He was also influential in the Senate Committee on Legal Reforms. Minhas was notably involved in the movement to reinstate the IHC when it was declared unconstitutional in 2007 under then-chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s ruling.
Azam Khan has a distinguished judicial background, having worked in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Judicial Service before moving to Islamabad in 2012.
Over the years, he has held various key roles, including presiding over the high-profile high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf.
Azam Khan’s last post was that of Sessions Judge (West) Islamabad, where he also contributed significantly to the administration of justice at the IHC.
