JUI-F chief expresses optimism about madrassa bill approval after meeting with PM

Islamabad (Web Desk): After his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, expressed optimism following his meeting with regarding the controversial Madrassa Registration Bill.

The bill, which has already been passed by Parliament, had been facing some objections, particularly from the office of the President.

However, he shared positive updates after the talks, revealing that the government had assured progress on addressing the concerns raised by his party and other religious groups.

According to Rehman, the prime minister had instructed the Ministry of Law to act swiftly and resolve any outstanding issues related to the bill. The JUI-F chief was confident that within the next couple of days, the government would announce favourable developments.

Rehman emphasized that the bill, now an official act, had already addressed the objections raised by the President in accordance with constitutional procedures.

He noted that any further objections from the President were legally invalid, as they had been submitted past the required time limitDuring the meeting, which included senior figures from both the government and JUI-F, there was a constructive atmosphere, with both sides keen on finding common ground.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who attended the meeting with key JUI-F leaders such as Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Senator Kamran Murtaza, and Maulana Asad Mehmood, expressed satisfaction with the government's approach.

He highlighted the government's willingness to ensure that the registration process for madrassas would be conducted in a manner that aligned with both legal and constitutional frameworks.

The government delegation, which included important figures like Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Qamar Zaman Kaira, appeared committed to addressing the concerns surrounding madrassa regulation.

Attorney General Mansoor Usman also participated in the discussions, where the focus was on refining the proposals for madrassa registration.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he will update the leadership of the Ittehad Tanzeemat-e-Madaris-e-Deenia, the alliance of religious seminaries, on the progress made.

He stated that the JUI-F was hopeful that within a short time, their concerns would be addressed, leading to a resolution that satisfied all parties involved. Rehman’s comments signaled a willingness to move forward, provided that the government remained committed to honouring the legal and constitutional requirements of the bill.
