Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah on Saturday said that Zaman Park operation was conducted to clear the 'no-go' areas and to arrest the miscreants hiding inside.
Talking to a private news channel, the minister said that a no-go area was created inside Lahore due to which the citizens were facing problems and difficulties,” he claimed.
The minister said that the police were fired upon and pelted with stones from inside the house.
In the course of the operation, weapons have been seized and slingshots used to pelt stones at the police were recovered from the house, he claimed.
Rana Sanaullah further said that it was unfortunate that a political party was involved in this type of activity, which was unprecedented in the political history of Pakistan.
The recovery of weapons from inside the house shows the mindset of Imran Khan, who wants chaos and anarchy in the country.
"The trend of standing up to the state through violence and force is being promoted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), he said, adding that if they had been permitted to carry on in this way, it would have become a tradition in the country.
Earlier on Saturday, the Punjab police launched operation at PTI chief and former premier Imran Khan's Zaman Park residence after he left to appear before a local court in Islamabad in the Toshakhana case.
Television footage showed police entering the house after bulldozing the main gate and taking a number of PTI workers into their custody.
“Section 144 is imposed, you are kindly advised to disperse,” police said in an announcement before barging into Imran Khan's residence.
The law enforcers also claimed that in retaliation to their operation, they faced straight firing and petrol bombs from inside Imran Khan's residence.
A heavy contingent of the police was deployed in the area after an agreement was reached between the administration and the PTI on Friday regarding the search in Zaman Park.
