Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): The national flag is flying at half-mast today across the country in reverence of the martyred and injured in New Zealand mosque attacks.
According to a notification issued by Interior Ministry, the decision has been taken to express solidarity with the bereaved families in the gruesome terror incident that took place at two mosques in Christchurch.
“The government and people of Pakistan stand united and extend solidarity to the grieved families, the notification said”.
Meanwhile, the process of handing over bodies of victims of Christchurch terrorist attacks to their respective families started on Monday.
This was informed by New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters in a telephonic conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The New Zealand FM added that the identification of bodies has been completed.
On Sunday, Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal confirmed in a tween that nine Pakistani nationals were martyred in the terrorist attack.
At least 50 people were killed and dozens were injured in the mass shootings at two mosques in the city of Christchurch on March 15.
Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, was charged with murder on Saturday and was remanded without plea. The right-wing terrorist is due back in court on April 5 where police said he was likely to face more charges.
