Multan (Web Desk): Pakistan’s bowlers, spearheaded by Sajid Khan and Noman Ali, unleashed a spinning assault that dismantled the West Indies’ batting line-up on day two of the opening Test in Multan on Saturday.
Despite some resistance from tailender Jomel Warrican, who managed a gritty 31, the visitors were bowled out in no time, unable to mount any significant challenge.
Earlier, the West Indies’ spinners, led by Warrican and Kevin Sinclair, turned the tables in the first session by wrapping up Pakistan’s innings for 230. Pakistan had resumed on 143-4, but the hosts lost six wickets in just 87 balls, much of it due to poor visibility that delayed play for 30 minutes.
The West Indies bowlers made the most of the situation, with Warrican finishing with 3-69 and Sinclair contributing 2-61.
Pakistan’s top scorers were Saud Shakeel (84) and Mohammad Rizwan (71), who put on an impressive 141-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Shakeel’s 157-ball knock included six boundaries, and Rizwan’s 133-ball effort featured nine boundaries, as they dragged the team from a precarious 46-4.
However, the game shifted in the middle session, when Sinclair’s clever delivery caught Shakeel out off a drive, sending him back to the pavilion. Pakistan’s momentum quickly evaporated, and the wickets fell in a flurry.
Warrican dismissed Sajid Khan (18) just before the lunch break to further unravel Pakistan’s batting effort.
Despite a valiant effort from Shakeel and Rizwan, Pakistan’s innings crumbled under the pressure.
The West Indies' fast bowler Jayden Seales also came alive, claiming 3-27, with all his wickets coming on day two.
After a promising start, Pakistan's innings fell apart as they were dismissed in quick time, setting the stage for the West Indies to respond in kind.
