Islamabad (Web Desk): The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday dismissed a plea challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment after the petitioners sought withdraw of their case.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, heard the joint petition.
Advocate Hamid Khan, representing the petitioners, informed the court of their intention to withdraw the appeal.
In response, the CJP inquired whether Hamid Khan had been specifically engaged for the withdrawal or if Abid Zuberi, another advocate, could have made that request himself.
Hamid confirmed that he represented all the petitioners involved in the case.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice Isa also addressed a pending petition filed by Advocate Abid Zuberi, noting that it had not yet been scheduled for a hearing but could be addressed at a later date.
With the withdrawal request granted, the top court officially dismissed the case against the 26 Constitutional Amendment.
It is pertinent to mention that a day earlier, top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) reportedly forged a consensus on the proposed amendments.
