Islamabad (Web Desk): The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle has arrested a suspect from Islamabad’s Banigala area for his alleged “anti-state campaign” on social media over the recent attack on the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan.
According to a spokesperson of the FIA, the suspect, identified as Haider Saeed, had been spreading hatred while sharing derogatory content targeting state institutions following the Jaffar Express attack.
The investigation also uncovered Saeed’s involvement in promoting banned terrorist groups on social media, further fueling extremist rhetoric.
The FIA has seized Saeed’s social media accounts and digital evidence as part of the ongoing probe, and authorities have vowed to proceed with strict legal measures against him under the law.
The Jaffar Express, which was carrying over 400 passengers, was ambushed on Tuesday in the Dhadar region of the Bolan Pass, while traveling from Quetta to Peshawar. Armed assailants stopped the train by bombing the tracks and then opened fire, killing the driver and several passengers.
The attack was quickly claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a banned militant organization that has been behind increasing violence in the area.
The situation was made worse by the fact that communication was severely hindered due to the lack of mobile network coverage in the remote location.
In the wake of the attack, a malicious and misleading propaganda campaign has erupted on social media. Fake news, including old videos, manipulated images, and fabricated WhatsApp messages, is being spread to stir panic and confusion.
These efforts are being coordinated by social media accounts tied to terrorist groups, with assistance from Indian media outlets that are broadcasting analyses from Baloch leaders in exile.
The false narrative being pushed aims to destabilize the situation and spread anti-Pakistan sentiment.
Authorities have warned the public to be cautious and rely only on verified information rather than falling for the deceptive propaganda being circulated online.
