Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday wrote to the National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, asking him to immediately constitute an inter-party parliamentary committee in order to discuss electoral reforms.
“I would request you to immediately form an inter-party parliamentary committee to discuss these reforms and come to an agreement on how to introduce best practices including the use of technology and introduction of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to strengthen our electoral system and democracy,” Prime Minister Imran wrote to the speaker of lower house of parliament.
“I would also suggest a definitive time frame for reaching agreement on all these issues that marred the transparency of our elections so that enough time is given to institute the reforms before the next general elections.
“PM Imran Khan has written to the speaker national assembly, asking for a multi party committee to review the election reform bill submitted by the govt several months back,” Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said in a tweet and added, “The current corruption ridden system exposed so badly in the recent senate elections needs urgent change.”
On Monday, the government on Monday called upon the chairman and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to resign, saying the body should resign after it failed to hold the Senate elections in a transparent manner.

Addressing a press conference flanked by information minister Shibli Faraz and Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood said the ECP has lost confidence of all the political parties as despite evidence of horse-trading, the body failed to ensure the transparency in Senate polls.
