CTD arrests JuD chief Hafiz Saeed

Lahore (Web Desk): The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested proscribed Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed on Wednesday.

The JuD chief was on his way to Gujranwala when he was arrested by the CTD.

Hafiz Saeed had to appear before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Gujranwala to seek bail.

According to CTD officials, Hafiz Saeed had been presented in an ATC. The court sent the JuD chief to jail on seven-day judicial remand.

They added that the charge sheet against Saeed will be presented soon, whereas, a case against the JuD chief had been registered under the anti-terrorism act.

As per the reports, the arrest is part of the Government of Pakistan’s crackdown against outlawed organisations under the National Action Plan (NAP).

On Monday, an ATC in Lahore granted him pre-arrest bail in a case pertaining to JuD’s alleged illegal use of land for its seminary.

On July 3, the CTD booked top leaders of the JuD in nearly two dozen cases for terror financing and money laundering under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

The cases were registered in Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi.
