Shehbaz urges govt for providing 'jail perks' to former PM Nawaz

Lahore (Staff Report) Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Monday urged the caretaker federal and provincial governments to provide the facilities to convicted Nawaz Sharif in Adiala Jail.in line with the stature of the former PM.

The former Punjab CM wrote a letter to caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk and Punjab Chief Minister Hassan Askari in this regard.

In the letter, Shehbaz wrote that Nawaz is a cardiac patient and provision of medicine and medical checkup should be ensured.

According to the sources, the letter has been delivered to the caretaker PM and Punjab CM.

The move comes after the former PM Nawaz Sharif complained about the lack of facilities and miserable condition of the room in the jail.

On Friday, former PM Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested by a National Accountability (NAB) team on their arrival at Lahore airport and shifted to Adiala Jail.

On July 6, the court awarded ousted premier to 10 years and Maryam Nawaz to 7 years imprisonment in the Avenfield corruption reference, while Capt (retd) Safdar will also face one year jail term in the case.

Accountability Court-I Judge Mohammad Bashir announced the verdict.

Moreover, Nawaz and Maryam were also fined 8 and 2 million pounds respectively.

The court ordered to confiscate the property in question, suggesting the government to do legislation to bring plundered money back to the country.
