Third round of talks with govt: PTI presents written draft of demands

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) presented its ‘charter of demands’ to the government in written form during the third round of negotiations between the two on Thursday.

Speaking after a meeting of the negotiation committee, which was chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, spokesperson for the government’s dialogue committee Irfan Siddiqui said that the opposition, led byOmar Ayub Khan, had submitted a written draft of their demands to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Siddiqui announced that the opposition’s draft had been reviewed and distributed among all committee members.

He said that during the meeting, Omar Ayub read the draft aloud for all to hear, and both government and opposition members discussed their respective views on the proposed demands.

Siddiqui confirmed that the government would respond to the opposition’s demands within the next seven working days.

The speaker, after consulting both committees, would set the date for the next round of talks.

Siddiqui added noted that the leadership and legal advisors of the allied parties would review the opposition's demands before any final response was made.

He also revealed that the opposition had asked for a meeting with their leader in Adiala Jail, a request which the government had approved.

During the session, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar provided an update on the situation regarding the ceasefire in Palestine.

Both the government and opposition members expressed their support for the ceasefire, hoping it would bring some relief to the people of Gaza.

Siddiqui praised the leadership of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, describing the meeting as productive, and both sides were optimistic about the progress of the dialogue.

Participants from the government side included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNAs Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Naveed Qamar, Prime Minister’s Political Aide Rana Sanaullah, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) MNA Dr Farooq Sattar, PML-Z leader Ijazul Haq, Balochistan Awami Party’s (BAP) Nawabzada Khalid Hussain Magsi, and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) President Abdul Aleem Khan.

The opposition was represented by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, former NA speaker and PTI MNA Asad Qaiser, Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) chief Hamid Raza, Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) chief Senator Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.
