Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid was arrested on Tuesday after his bail was rejected in a case related to the May 9 incidents.
According to details, a case was registered against the APML chief at New Town Police Station for vandalism at the Metro bus station at Rawalpindi’s Sixth Road.
Meanwhile, anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi granted bail to Rashid and other accused in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case. The case had been lodged at the A R Bazaar Police Station against the accused.
Earlier, the former interior minister and other accused had secured interim bails in 9 out of 13 cases from an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi.
The AML chief and his nephew Rashid Shafique were implicated in 12 cases connected to the May 9 riots. All ten police stations in the city had requested Rashid's arrest to complete the investigation.
It is pertinent to mention that on May 9, alleged workers and supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vandalized and set fire to state and army properties and memorials in the wake of the party founder Imran Khan’s arrest by paramilitary troops from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Later, dozens of PTI leaders and workers were arrested in connection with May 9 violence, while several leaders had parted ways with the party.
