World Standards Day observed

Islamabad (Web Desk): World Standards Day is being observed today (Monday) to pay tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as International Standards.

The theme for this year is "Shared Vision for a Better World"

In his message on the World Standards Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated government's commitment to support country's relevant organizations achieving adherence to highest global standards.

He said the growth of Pakistan's exports is directly linked with the compliance of our goods and services with the international standards.

The prime minister said that Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) is actively engaging with the global community and making efforts to inspire our domestic manufacturers to adopt standardization and quality-focused practices.

He highlighted the PSQCA has developed rigorous safety standards for automotive vehicles to protect the lives of Pakistani citizens.

"These efforts reflect our determination to prioritize the well-being of our people through comprehensive and effective standards," PM Shehbaz said.

As per the international media, World Standards Day traces its origins to 1946, when delegates from 25 countries met in London and decided to establish an international organisation dedicated to promoting standardisation. The International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) was formed the following year, but it wasn’t until 1970 that the first World Standards Day was officially celebrated.

Around the world, the national standards bodies and intergovernmental organisations mark the occasion through a variety of events, including conferences, exhibitions, seminars, TV and radio interviews, and even week-long celebrations known as “World Standards Week.”
