London (Web Desk/Agencies): Defense Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Thursday visited the Pakistan High Commission in London to file a formal complaint with local authorities, following a disturbing incident earlier this week.

Asif, who is currently in the UK on a private visit, was subjected to verbal abuse, harassment, and death threats during a train journey on November 11, 2024.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM aboard the Elizabeth Line, while Asif was traveling with a relative to Reading.

According to the defence minister, a group of three or four individuals began harassing him during the journey, filming him without consent, and using abusive language. The situation escalated when one of the individuals allegedly threatened Asif with a knife.

Khawaja Asif, who did not recognize the individuals involved, has urged the London Transport Police to use CCTV footage to identify and apprehend those responsible for the disturbing episode.

Speaking to the police, the PML-N leader condemned the behaviour, calling it not only a personal affront but also a shameful reflection on the broader community, particularly the 1.7 million British-Pakistanis living in the UK.

"I was traveling on the Elizabeth Line when I was harassed by a group of people who made threats and filmed me without permission," Asif explained.

"Such incidents of violence and intimidation are completely unacceptable, and I hope the authorities take swift action to hold those responsible accountable," he said.

Meanwhile, the London Transport Police have reportedly launched an investigation into the matter, and are reviewing the CCTV footage from the train to trace the suspects.

Khawaja Asif's report has added to growing concerns over the safety of public figures and the increasing prevalence of harassment, particularly in public transport settings.

This incident has drawn attention not only because of the threat to a high-profile Pakistani politician, but also due to the implications it has for the safety of individuals, regardless of their status or nationality, when traveling in public spaces.
