Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed strict action to tackle the hoarding of sugar and curb the artificial scarcity that has led to a rise in prices.
In a meeting focused on the nation's sugar supply and demand, the prime minister emphasized the government's determination to prevent any price hikes driven by speculative trading.
He called for immediate and decisive action against those exploiting the situation for profit.
PM Shehbaz asserted that sugar is available in sufficient quantities across the country and urged authorities to closely monitor the entire supply chain to prevent any disruptions.
He made it clear that any attempt to manipulate the market for personal gain, particularly during the holy month of Ramazan, would be met with severe consequences.
The prime minister instructed officials to maintain constant communication with sugar mills to track production and distribution.
He also directed the chief secretaries of the four provinces to ensure that sugar is sold at fixed prices, ensuring the public is not burdened by unfair pricing.
High-ranking government officials, including federal ministers and provincial representatives, participated in the meeting, where they were briefed on the current status of the sugar market and price trends.
PM Shehbaz concluded by reaffirming that during Ramazan, the government would take all necessary steps to protect the public from exploitation, reinforcing the commitment to fair and just access to essential goods for all citizens.
Federal ministers Azam Nazeer Tarar, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Assistant to PM Haroon Akhtar, and high-level officials concerned attended the meeting while the Chief Secretaries of the four provinces participated through video link.
The prime minister was briefed in detail about the supply and demand of sugar and its current prices.
