World Blood Donor Day observed

Islamabad (Web Desk): World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) 2021 was observed across the globe including Pakistan on Monday to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood donations.

This year’s theme is, “Give blood and keep the world beating”.

The message highlights the essential contribution of blood donors to save lives.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) every year on June 14.

The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system.

In 2011, WHO called upon communities world-wide to symbolically "paint the world red" by colouring, covering, or lighting monuments and landmarks.

Despite about 92 million yearly blood donations worldwide, safe blood is constantly in high demand, especially in developing countries.

The global theme of World Blood Donor Day changes each year in recognition of the selfless individuals who donate their blood for people unknown to them.
