Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): The federal cabinet will meet today (Tuesday) to discuss Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be followed in order to contain the spread of the COVID-19 during Eidul Azha.
According to sources, the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan will also review the overall political and economic situation of the country.
On Monday, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) chalked out the SOPs for Eid-ul-Azha. The forum was told that around 700 cattle markets will be functioning across Pakistan at the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, for which necessary guidelines have been forwarded.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Tuesday rose to 253,604 after about 1,979 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country over the last twenty-four hours.
Overall, 87,492 cases were reported in Punjab, 106,622 in Sindh, 30,747 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,192 in Balochistan, 14,202 in Islamabad, 1,694 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 1,655 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 5,320 with 50 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
The NCOC data shows that there has been an improvement in the number of recoveries from coronavirus in the country with figure now reaching 170,656.
