PM says situation in Kurram improving, urges stakeholders to join hands for peace

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed the hope that the fragile peace in Kurram district would endure, following recent efforts to stabilize the region.

During the federal cabinet meeting today, the premier, while acknowledging that the situation had faced setbacks after the peace agreement was signed, noted that conditions were gradually improving.

PM Shehbaz referred to the initial challenges, including an attack on a government vehicle just after the peace deal, which resulted in the injury of several officials.

Despite this, the delivery of much-needed aid to the region has resumed, with security measures now in place to ensure the safe passage of supplies.

A fresh convoy, consisting of dozens of vehicles carrying essential food and medical supplies, departed from Tal Cantonment, destined for the worst-hit areas of Kurram.

Authorities have prioritized restoring essential services, with food, medicine, and other relief items being sent to regions such as Parachinar, Alizai, and Boshehra.

Efforts to dismantle local bunkers are also underway, following agreements made between tribal elders as part of peace talks.

During the federal cabinet meeting PM Shehbaz called for stronger efforts to address the country's educational challenges, particularly the large number of children, especially girls, who are out of school.

He emphasized the need for coordinated action between provincial governments to improve educational outcomes and ensure that every child has access to schooling.

The premier’s comments followed a recent international conference on girls' education held in Islamabad, where significant progress was made in advocating for female education.

He also pointed to positive developments in other areas, such as the resumption of international flights by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to Europe.

PM Shehbaz expressed the confidence that flights to Britain would soon resume as well, providing greater convenience for travelers.

The premier said that a new border crossing point between Pakistan and Iran, located in Panjgur, was inaugurated to foster legitimate trade and curb illegal smuggling activities. He extended his gratitude to Iran for its cooperation in making this possible.

On the security front, the prime minister lauded the ongoing operations by security forces against extremist groups in Balochistan.

He said that a recent intelligence-based operation (IBO) resulted in the deaths of 27 militants, underscoring the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.

PM Shehbaz paid tribute to the sacrifices of security personnel, vowing that their efforts would not be forgotten as the nation moves toward lasting peace and stability.
