Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday underscored the importance of deepening Pakistan's collaboration with the United Nations (UN), particularly in areas related to sustainable development and climate change.
During a meeting with Mohamed Yahya, the UN's Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to working alongside the international community and the UN to address the growing challenges of climate change.
PM Shehbaz lauded the UN's significant contributions to Pakistan, especially in the aftermath of the devastating 2022 floods, and conveyed his regards for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, praising his leadership in mobilizing global support for Pakistan during the crisis.
He highlighted the critical role of climate financing in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change, calling on developed nations to fulfill their financial pledges.
The premier further emphasized the need for addressing the financial gap hindering the progress of Sustainable Development Goals and advocated for greater representation of developing countries in international financial institutions through reforms in the global financial system.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for EAD Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, SAPM Syed Tariq Fatemi, PM’s Coordinator for Climate change Ms Romina Khursheed Alam and senior government officials also attended the meeting.
