Islamabad (Web Desk): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday rejected the a plea seeking disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) member of provincial assembly (MPA) Faryal Talpur.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh leaders leaders Taj and Rabia Azfar had appealed the ECP against Talpur, accusing her of hiding assets.

However, the ECP dismissed the plea declaring Talpur eligible to hold office.

The ECP had reserved its judgment on October 27 after arguments were completed on the matter.

In its verdict, the electoral watchdog wrote that the respondent had disclosed her assets and that disqualification requires material and concrete evidence.

The judgment added that the petitioners failed to make a case for disqualification.

Faryal Talpur had been indicted by an accountability court in Islamabad alongside her brother and former president Asif Zardari and other accused in the mega-money laundering reference pertaining to the fake accounts case in 2020.

Zardari, Talpur and several of their business associates were at the time being investigated as part of a 2015 case regarding fake accounts and fictitious transactions conducted through ‘benami’ accounts.
