Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Assembly on Monday, unanimously passed a resolution strongly denouncing the ongoing heinous wave of atrocities by the Zionist Israeli regime in Gaza.
The resolution, moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, condemned the renewed military assault launched on March 18, which has resulted in the killing of over 1,600 civilians in the latest phase alone, raising the total death toll to more than 65,000 Palestinians since the beginning of the onslaught.
The resolution voiced grave concern over the widespread and systematic destruction of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, including residential areas, hospitals, educational institutions, and religious sites, which it described as deliberate and inhumane acts.
The House expressed unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their enduring resistance and underscored their legitimate and undeniable right to self-determination and to reclaim their homeland.
Expressing disappointment over the continued inability of global powers and international organizations to restrain Israeli military aggression, the resolution called for an immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire. It also stressed the urgent need for sustained and unhindered humanitarian aid to be delivered to the affected population in Gaza, who remain trapped under siege and deprived of basic necessities.
Furthermore, the Assembly demanded a complete and immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, in accordance with the stipulations laid out in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2735 adopted in 2024.
The resolution also appealed to the global community to take definitive and practical steps toward recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state and granting it full membership in the United Nations.
During the proceedings, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar addressing the house, reiterated that Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause is unanimous and unwavering. He drew attention to the horrific acts of violence being committed against civilians in Gaza, emphasizing that Pakistan stands united in its condemnation of such actions.
Tarar highlighted Pakistan’s principled position on Israel, pointing out that the country’s passport explicitly bars travel to Israel—a reflection of its long-standing policy of non-recognition.
He further stated that Pakistan has persistently raised its voice at international forums against the illegal occupation and violations of human rights perpetrated by Israel, which he characterized as war crimes.
The minister reaffirmed the country's commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Touching on Pakistan’s humanitarian outreach, the minister noted that nearly 200 Palestinian students are currently studying medicine in Pakistan, with the government covering their lodging and educational expenses.
He added that Pakistan has also dispatched several thousand tons of humanitarian aid to support the people of Gaza in this time of immense suffering.
Other members of the National Assembly (NA), including Abdul Qadir Patel, Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, Usman Badini, Hameed Hussain, Ali Muhammad Khan, and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, also shared their perspectives, echoing a collective condemnation of the Israeli military campaign.
Following the adoption of the resolution, the Assembly session was officially prorogued.
